Well it has been a hectic month here at Dads Riding Bikes household. We welcomed our second daughter into our family. Sleep has been scarce and therefore riding has also been limited.
We are fortunate to have supportive families and had a Grandparent here at our home all but 5 days in September. This did allow me to get out on the bike a handful of times. My monthly riding stats for the month of September were:
Total Number of Rides | 8 |
---|---|
Road Rides | 5 |
Zwift Rides | 3 |
Total Distance (mi) | 157 |
Total Elevation (ft) | 11,669 |
As you can see in the screenshot below, I rode mostly in zone 1 and 2, which as I mention in my post HOW PARENTS CAN MANAGE CYCLING WITH A NEWBORN, it is important to keep your riding at low intensity so you can recover on the little sleep you will be getting.
On a few of my rides I felt pretty good, but the next few days I was struggling with tiredness. My current shift with my wife has me up until 12am everynight, which usually ends up with me falling asleep around 12:30 am. My wife takes the next shift until 7 am, but I still wake up every 3-4 hours when the baby starts crying, so my sleep isn’t solid. Overall I am pretty happy with the amount of riding I have been able to get in.
Looking at my fitness levels I am currently sitting at a 25, having peaked at 48 in early June and stayed in the mid 40s until my Triple Bypass ride on July 22, 2023. I have had a few minor health issues during august that I needed to take care of that periodically kept me off the bike, but man does your fitness drop fast. It’s a little disheartening to see how quickly it drops off, but I am staying positive that I will be trending back up in the coming months.
We will not be having any family around until the end of October, so rides will be shorter and more Zwifting will be happening. If you haven’t already, go check out my Unlocking The Tron Bike in Zwift as I try to complete it by spring 2024.
Here is to more riding!
